Wild beauties to explore

Located on the edge of Quercy, Albigeois and Rouergue, the territory of the Causses and Gorges de l’Aveyron is a paradise for adventurers. Between vertiginous cliffs, gorges, a haven of rapids and meanders, thrill-seekers meet there to indulge in the pleasures of extreme sports. Discover these wild beauties on foot, by mountain bike , canoe , paraglider… to soak up this nature with its varied landscapes.

The Causses or lands of colors: the green of boxwoods and oaks, the red of its soils loaded with clay and iron, the white of its limestone, the yellow of broom and honeysuckle, the pink and blue of wild orchids … A nature of wide open spaces! The Gorges, for their part, offer high cliffs which are reflected in the Aveyron river with its green and lush banks. Since prehistoric times, man has chosen to settle in this paradise with preserved flora and fauna.

Along the water

Canoeing and paddle boarding in the Gorges de l’Aveyron are kings!

Around Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, on the beautiful Aveyron river, canoeing is the king sport. Accessible to all, the descent of the Gorges de l’Aveyron by canoe-kayak is fun. The many beaches arranged along the  routes of 7 km to 30 km are ideal places for a picnic or a swim . For those in a hurry, three hours are necessary to complete the 7 kilometers of descent. Several clubs or associations offer this type of activity.

Paddles are also available for a stroll along the medieval city of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val. An unusual and fun way to discover this architectural pearl of the Gorges de l’Aveyron.

Maison de l’Amour, Maison des Loups… travel to the Middle Ages

The territory of the Causses and Gorges de l’Aveyron has a rich historical past that can be found in the heart of its medieval towns. Old residences, winding streets, twin or mullioned windows, Gothic or Romanesque arches, old portals, covered markets invite you to stroll.

Among these medieval towns, Caylus has preserved its rich 13th-16th century houses, in particular the Maison des Loups, built around 1350. St-Antonin-Noble-Val proudly displays its rich history: the Maison Romane, one of the oldest civil buildings in France, restored by Viollet Le Duc, his Maison du Roy, his Maison de l’Amour but also many other buildings and sculpted elements.

Other gems are to be discovered: Varen and its Deanery, a marvel of Romanesque art, the bastide of Verfeil-sur-Seye with its market hall and its cutlery in its center, and finally Laguépie , nestled between the arms of the Aveyron and the Viaur, a charming village surrounded by oaks, but above all by chestnut trees which give the emblematic fruit of this area.
