Beaumont de Lomagne, an exemplary bastide, was founded between 1276 and 1279 following an act of paréage between the abbey of Granselve and the king of France Philippe III the Bold represented by his seneschal Eustache de Beaumarchais. It is characterized by a geometric division of the space around its immense 14th century hall.

The town has retained its 13th century fortified church, a number of half-timbered houses and houses full of character.Its huge 14th century square market hall measuring 36.40 m on side, has an impressive frame supported by 38 posts resting on plinths of stone of different levels to compensate for the slope. At the beginning of the 19th century the hall was closed. It was not until after 1810 that it became an open hall.
