Philippe Landry had the good fortune to end his career as an artisan printer, a trade he practised for 14 years. His passion for his craft led him, once retired, to continue reviving these old, used and forgotten typefaces in a new form.
In his workshop, typographic lettering, marked by years of graphic composition and abandoned by modern printing processes, is brought back to life and speaks of the nobility of the craft it once carried.
He uses old printing letters, mostly made of wood, to create paintings and decorative objects charged with meaning and memory. Hence the title of some of his creations: ‘Nove Sed Non Nova’ (the way is new, not the material).
