His statuettes reflect his humility. Serious, pensive, smiling or collected figures form a miniature forest of men and women. Characters drawn from Christian imagery rub shoulders with free reinterpretations of Bourdelle, or musings on the beautiful young ladies painted by Picasso, at the dawn of Cubism and Expressionism. Sometimes patinated or painted in soft colors à la Giotto, often with an inspiration from tribal arts and outsider art, his works exude authenticity and extraordinary freedom.
