The village was built between 1253 and 1265. This town, pretty and welcoming, retains the remains of its enclosure. Like all bastides, Larrazet is built on a regular plan, the village has covered passages in streets lined with old houses built from the 16th to the 19th centuries, superb half-timbered and half-timbered houses. On the site of the old tower, Johan de Cardailhac, in charge of the abbey of Belleperche, had the abbey palace built in 1500 (flamboyant Gothic style facade and monumental staircase). Larrazet owes his most prestigious era to this same abbot because it was he who had the Gothic church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine built between 1500-1530 on the site of a 13th century sanctuary. Ransacked during the Wars of Religion, it was restored in 1607 in cut stone and features a baroque altarpiece in solid oak of 60 m² in area. Made in 1687, without castings, it offers a set of remarkable scenes, statues and decorations. Depth and abundance of looks, emotion of faces, abundance of details, make this altarpiece a Baroque architectural work of the very first order. In this flowery village that has won awards on many occasions, the Floralies, which have been held for several years on the second Sunday in May, have been a great success.
