Moulin de Bellerive

  • Mill built in 1781 by Louis Martin de Bellerive. Private property but the mill is visible from the road.

  • The Bellerive Mill was protected as a Historic Monument in 1989. It is built of brick with stone bases. It consists of three levels and housed eight horizontal (flat) turbines.
    • Four for grinding flour;
    • One to operate the bluterie mechanism (which acted like a sieve, to separate the flour from the bran which envelops the grains);
    • Two to transmit power to a neighboring sawmill;
    • One for pumping water.

    The mill roadway was damaged by a flood during the winter of 1783. This caused difficulties later. Then after another break in the roadway in 1911, the mill's activity ceased definitively.
